What a contractor quotes for an AC install depends on what the ducts and electrical panel can actually carry, and in New Hampshire that answer is not available at the curb. Half the homes in New Hampshire were built in 1979 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). That spread of construction means a sizable portion of houses in any county carry service panels, duct configurations, and insulation levels that a newer build would not, so a contractor has to assess them before committing to a load calculation or a unit size. A quote given before that inspection is a guess.
Does where you live in New Hampshire put harder miles on your HVAC?

Outdoor equipment in New Hampshire contends with ice loading, wind-driven debris, heavy snow accumulation, and summer heat that swings hard between seasons. A condenser placed without accounting for those forces, or sized without knowing what the local record looks like, is working against itself from day one. The licensed contractor you are matched with reads that picture before spec'ing anything.
New Hampshire HVAC Installation and Repair License Requirements
New Hampshire sets its own rules for who may perform HVAC installation and repair work, and this section quotes those rules directly from the source rather than paraphrasing them.
New Hampshire's mechanical licensing board issues nine credentials — hearth system, four fuel gas endorsements, domestic appliance technician, and master, journeyman and apprentice plumber — and a licensee may not work outside the specialty their licence names. None of the nine is an HVAC licence.
A state licensing requirement for this trade means a contractor must hold a valid credential before touching the work on your home. Knowing that standard exists is what lets you evaluate the person you are about to hire. Every contractor this site routes a request to holds the license New Hampshire requires for this work.

New Hampshire does not license HVAC as a trade, and says so where it matters: the plumbing licence expressly does not reach a person installing heating, cooling, air conditioning or domestic water heating systems, whether solar, oil, gas or electric. The gas piping on a gas-fired system is a separate matter and needs a fuel gas fitter licence.
